I just found your blog today. My 88-year-old dad has AD; in fact, I started a blog about a month ago, Dad with AD, mostly to keep the family informed and updated. Dad is now about 4 years into his condition, has went downhill fast since Thanksgiving. He just kind of "forgot" how to walk one day. He was in the hospital for a week, then a nursing home for about 3 weeks, was so agitated that they couldn't deal with him and sent him to the local hospital Psych ward the day before Christmas Eve to adjust medications. He will go back to the Nursing Home before this weekend. I just want to thank you so much for writing this. I can really identify with so much of it, especially the part about grieving for him over the past couple of years. Also about the being overwhelmed part - my father-in-law died of lung cancer Christmas Day and my Mom is on kidney dialysis. Just trying to find time to live your own life sometimes seems futile.
Take care of yourself and enjoy your vacation. You've certainly earned it!
